Legal Car Modifications On the Indian Roads

If you have modified a car or are planning to do so you must be well aware of the laws before you do it to avoid any penalties. There have been many instances where even the basic modifications have been banned by the Government. While some mods have been in the permissible limits, others are completely illegal. Though, here we are going to discuss the modifications which are legal on the Indian roads.

What are the car modifications that are legal on Indian roads?

  • Body kits: Most body kits are basic and bolt on which is completely legal unless it changes the look of the car or makes it look any aggressive.
  • Body wraps: It has become a trend. There are many garages that can install various types of wraps that look extremely good on the car. It is legal as far as it doesn’t change the color of the car. If you want to change the color of your vehicle, you would have to get it on the RC book.
  • Secondary lamps and LED inserts: While any modification to the headlamps can be illegal, adding auxiliary lamps are very safe. However, the lamps should not be placed above the height of the stock and should be covered while riding on public roads. Any lamps mounted on the rooftop are illegal. While LED inserts are completely legal. It makes the car look unique. However, the color of the tail lamp should not be changed.
  • Roof rack: Roof racks are installed for carrying luggage. However, roof racks have to be endorsed on the registration certificate.
